How Being Persistent Will Land You Your Dream Client
Hey E-preneurs! It’s 2nd Quarter and I hope you are tackling all your goals and getting those new year resolutions accomplished. One of my goals for 2018 is to land 5 new project management clients by June. I am on number 4 and couldn’t be happier! I just recently landed a deal with one of my ideal clients and just want to share with you how being persistent can land you your dream client as well.
If you have been following me for a while then you know I am a Shopify-aholic. I absolutely love Shopify and believe it is one of the easiest, most user-friendly, no graphic design experience needed ecommerce platform. I began using Shopify almost 3 years ago when I started my online handbag shop, VITAL XII, and have been an advocate ever since. I have set up many Shopify accounts for clients and have even been a volunteer at their Atlanta Meetups since the beginning of last year (finding a local meet up in your area is a great way to connect with other business owners in your field of work). So since I have been volunteering at the meet ups for some time now I figured to ask the owner of the company handling the meet ups if she needed any more help. I offered my services to her because I have a project management company and one of the services I offer is event curation for professional/business events. When I offered my services to her she was very intrigued and let me know that at the moment she couldn’t offer me a position due to her already being fully staffed but she would let me know if anything came up in the future. Of course, it kind of had me discouraged because usually, I am not the person to just reach out to people first so I had to keep in my mind that one no can lead to many yes’s. And just like that it did, fast forward 2 months later the owner contacted me about my services because her employee just gave her two weeks notice. WHOO HOO now this meant a new contract I would be signing with my project management company just simply off of not giving up and staying persistent. Now I am the new ATL Shopify Meetup Coordinator as well as the Social Media Manager for the company.
Here are a few tips to remember while staying persistent to land your dream client:
1. Promote Yourself
Always promote your business and always carry business cards! People will never know what you do or what services you offer if you aren’t promoting it. Word of mouth is one of the most powerful marketing strategies and you should definitely use it wisely. While at the meet ups I make sure to network with other business owners and tell them about the services I offer because you never know if they may need my help or even if I need their help so speaking up and promoting yourself is key.
2. Be Proactive
Never wait around for instructions! Be proactive and make sure you aren’t the one that’s just waiting for someone to give you something to do. As an entrepreneur, you must always be thinking of solutions to problems or new ideas so you want to make sure you are showing your ideal client that you are ready for the challenge and that you can bring innovative ideas to the team. At the Shopify Meetups I made sure to handle any problems that may arise by using my best judgment and made sure to always be active and not just sitting around during the event.
3. Genuinely Be Interested
People can always sense BS or bad vibes so being genuinely interested is important. If you want to land a client you should make sure you are fully knowledgeable about the client and their company. Don’t pretend to be interested in someone or their company if you know you could careless about it. If your company goal is to help business owners that express to them how you can honestly help their company and always be genuine if you don’t know how to do something just be transparent.
