Indeed, Everything is Figureoutable

Hey E-preneurs!

I’ve been a real bookworm lately. One of my good friends who knows I’m on a self-development mission purchased an amazing book for me by Marie Forleo, Everything is Figureoutable. I have now fully adopted this incredible mindset that indeed, everything is figureoutable and I want to share some key takeaways with you from this life-changing book:

Your Road Map to Results

“You don’t make progress by standing on the sidelines, whimpering and complaining. You make progress by implementing ideas” - Shirley Chisholm. Marie speaks more on how your road map to results requires action. You cannot just dream about what you want, you have to actually take action. In order to get to your desired results, you have to follow these two steps:

  1. Train Your Brain for Growth - training your brain for growth means adopting a positive and forever learning mindset. When you have thoughts of “I know this already…” or “This won’t work for me” shift it to “What can I learn from this?” or “How can this work for me?”. Your brain either works for you or against you but only you are in control of this.

  2. Try It Before You Deny It - “Everything that is not forbidden by laws of nature is achievable, given the right knowledge” - David Deutsch in other words test out your biggest fears, apply it to your life, and just experience it. If it works out then great, if not then…try again. It’s much better to try than to live life regretting what you could have done.

The Magic of Belief

Life is all about choices, which first starts with your thought process. Nothing in life comes into fruition without it first being in our minds, as a thought. Your thoughts and beliefs determine your destiny, which means you have to be aware of what you’re feeding your mind. We have to practice becoming aware of what we’re thinking because your thoughts can either hurt or harm you. The good news is that, at any moment in life you have the choice of continuing to believe those positive or negative thoughts and then from that taking action.

Eliminate Excuses

When we say we “can’t” do something what we’re really saying is that we don’t have the desire to make the sacrifice or put in the effort, so we “won’t” do it. For example, I “can’t” work on my business today really means I “won’t” work on my business today. When we look at it from that perspective, it’ll really change what we think we “can’t” do because we now know that we can do it we’re just not making the sacrifice.

How to Deal with the Fear of Anything

Rather than being fearful, we have to understand the origin of what we’re fearful of. Fear is always going to be around, but how you deal with it is the solution. One of the exercises in this chapter was to write down the absolute worst thing that could possibly happen and what that would mean to you in terms of financially, emotionally, and mentally (Lose your job, stutter during your speech, fall down on stage, etc.) Now that the worst thing has happened write down what you can do to bounce back from it? This exercise allows you to envision the worst thing happening in life and then your responses on how you would fix it. By doing this, you are already prepared for your biggest fear…so what are you still afraid for when you have the solution right on paper?

Define Your Dream

Not having a clear understanding of your actual dream can lead you towards a host of other problems. When you have a clear understanding on where you’re going it’s much easier to get there. “The man who chases two rabbits, catches neither”- Confucius. Of course there are many things we may want out of life, but what is your one dream that will allow you to reach happiness?

Start Before You’re Ready

You have to get out of your comfort zone and get into your growth zone a.k.a discomfort zone. You have to do the things that make you uncomfortable if you really want to achieve success. Being in the growth zone may feel uncomfortable, you will feel vulnerable and insecure, but you have to go there if you want to grow.

Progress Not Perfection

This quote was actually on my screensaver prior to reading this book but after reading this chapter I got affirmation that progression not perfection is the key to reaching your goals. Take small consistent steps towards your goals instead of always procrastinating on whether you should or shouldn’t. Taking one small step towards your goal daily means so much more than just waiting to everything is perfect. Setbacks and fumbles are inevitable, it’s going to happen so just focus on the journey not the polished finished product.

Refuse to Be Refused

When figuring out things in life, it requires you to never accept “No” as the final answer. Yes you may be denied that business loan 5 times, but that doesn’t mean on the 6th time you won’t get it. You have to be persistent in the face of resistance. Refuse to be refused, continue to try even when it feels impossible.

The World Needs Your Special Gift

Yes, you! Everyone has something special and different to offer and the world needs that gift from you specifically. As we all know, everyone is not made the same. Some people have the gift of singing while others have the gift of giving to others, no gift is too small - we all need something that you may have.

If you’re going through a tough time and everything seems to not be working out, you should definitely stop what you’re doing and go purchase this book. Not only is it filled with practical insights but Marie Forleo includes “Insight to Action Challenges” which allows you to complete exercises to figure out the road map to your biggest goal. Not only did I take away some great value bombs from this book but I also got to participate in actionable challenges that helped me take the next step towards my dreams.
